Wintering on the Boardman

...January 2020 is but hours to being history. Here at the Shadowland RL, there is a blanket of snow, crusty from bouts of drizzling freezing rain over the last week. The snow dips down into the Boardman River along it's banks like the frosting if a delicious bunt cake. The woods are quiet - no wind noticeable, but ever so often, an occasional sway and creek of a large oak, poplar, or majestic white pine. Their heaven reaching branches seem to be swaying to the somber silence of winter. I imagine they await the rush of live giving "sap" to infuse the forest into a canopy of summer sun shading verde. Today, something caught my eye while in the cabin- I could see movement outside along the river. I grabbed phone and headed to the window....
